Post #18 -Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October 1st. I didn't anticipate the emotions I would have today.... This month - Breast Cancer Awareness month and all of the attention around this disease. Supporting others and the concept of "Breast Cancer Awareness" month every October over all of these years and today, this month now represents me. That realization shakes me. The fight, the meaning, the community... the pink ribbon... All of that now represents me. So today it hits me hard and I am feeling very emotional.

I have received several supportive and very kind messages this morning, all of which make me feel so loved and supported (you all know who you are and THANK YOU ).

Ironically I have a doctors appt today for a follow up with my breast surgeon, Dr Valentine, who removed the cancer from my body. I met with her nurse who is absolutely incredible. She is the type of person who can read others well and she knows I'm on the edge when I meet with her but all in all a good follow up appt. She shares with me how to do self exams with my new body and how important they are. I don't really know how to feel.... I honestly feel overwhelmed, grateful, scared, nervous, inspired - so many different emotions about how I feel about my new body. I am cancer-free, praise to God! And I need to stay focused on that and also my faith that God has a plan for me, for all of us, and this is part of God's plan for me. He will help me navigate through this today, this month, and going forward....

So although it feels a bit emotional today that it is October and this month will forever represent me, and everyone woman who has ever encountered this diagnosis, or had a wife, parent, child, husband, friend, loved one, given this diagnosis....  I will stay confident that God is with me every step of the way, and is with all those who accept Him into their hearts.

I will embrace this month as a month to be proud of, not to be scared of. Like I tell my kids - mindset is EVERYTHING, so here is mine:

Today I am a survivor and I will continue to be one!

My Amazing Support!!! I appreciate and love you all!
